In 1970-71, in a spiritual movement initiated by renowned saints, scholars, and social workers from various parts of India; Gurukul Vidyalaya located in Churu, Rajasthan played an important role.
This movement was led by Swami Shivanandji Saraswati from Kashi – a disciple of Pujya Karpatriji Maharaj and a follower of Jagatguru Swami Niranjan Teerath; who after witnessing the success of this movement, felt a deep calling to impart Vedic knowledge to students from all walks of life.
His vision was supported by Shri Bhagirath Prasadji Marda, a householder saint known for balancing worldly responsibilities with spiritual growth. In 1972, Shri Mardaji generously donated land and funds, laying the foundation of the Gurukul. Many other devoted individuals also became generous supporters of this cause.
With the help of Adv. Shri Ramnarayanji Tawri, Smt. Parmeshwari Devi Tawri, Shri Lachiramji Jasrasaria, Shri Dhannesinghji Rathore, Shri Riddhkaranaji Goenka, Shri Pradipji Sharma, Shri Murarilalji Bajaj and several other dedicated individuals; Gurukul Vidyalaya thrived over the years, promoting the traditional Vedic education system.
The institution offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes Vedic teachings in Sanskrit, alongside subjects in Hindi and English. It continues to provide free education, accommodation, and meals to its students. Alumni of the institution have made significant contributions to society through education and religious work, both in India and abroad.
Shri Omprakash ji Marda and Smt. Veenadevi Marda undertook the noble responsibility and initiated the modernization plan of this sacred institution.
They were blessed with the divine grace and presence of Param Pujya Swami Yogiraj Amarjyoti, a direct disciple of Mahavatar Babaji; who laid the foundation stone for the New Gurukul on 14 December 2018.
This marked a new chapter in the Gurukul’s history, ensuring its continued growth and alignment with modern needs while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
Gurukul Vidyalaya is consistently striving to integrate ancient wisdom with modern education to provide holistic learning and to nurture future generations rooted in Indian values and spirituality.
In 2018, we asked ourselves a question : “Why revive Gurukul Vidyalaya?” Late Shri OP Marda and Late Smt Veena Marda inspired us to reconsider the importance of this revival.
Gurukul Vidyalaya aims to be the center of excellence for Vedic scripture and literature. It aims to become the institution providing the foremost choice for authentic and knowledgeable pandits to our society to conduct rituals and ceremonies with precision and authenticity
A school imparting Vedic education serves as a vital link to our ancient wisdom and cultural heritage. Vedic education fosters critical thinking, spirituality, and holistic development, empowering to shape a more compassionate, enlightened world.
Students qualify as Pandits, Shastri, and Acharyas from the affiliated university – Sampurnanand Vishvavidyalay. They will
- Become ambassadors of Sanatan Dharma – Spreading Sanskrit and Sanskriti amongst enthusiasts.
- Interpret scriptures with depth and context
- Share Vedic values and philosophy globally and promote cross-cultural understanding

Facilities Include :
The objective is that teachers and students can have the best facilities and a congenial atmosphere to learn and become scholars without worrying about other worldly problems.
We currently have 30 students. The students of Gurukul perform Yagya / Havan on behalf of people on special occasions.
Expansion and Growth :
- Build Infrastructure for 100 students where the students follow a disciplined routine from morning till night.
- Ensure admission is granted to the right candidates who have an inclination to learn Sanskrit and Vedic Education
- Enhance the Curriculum and increase the strength of the teaching staff.
- Current course is till Pandit level. Increase it to Shastri and Acharya levels (Affiliation with Govt. recognized, Sampurnanand Vishwavidyalaya)
- Apart from Sanskrit & Hindi, Gurukul will also be imparting education in Mathematics, Computers & English Language. Other subjects such as Jyotish Vidya, Vaastu Shastra, Indian Classical Music, Naturopathy & Ayurveda will also be taught.
- Empowering students by opening doors with livelihood opportunities after completing education.
Community Engagement & Sustainable model
- Vedic Experience: 7-day residential camps for those interested in Vedic culture to live a Vedic lifestyle and learn about our scripts, rituals and why we do what we do.
- Yoga and Meditation courses for local community and travelers to Churu and surrounds.
- As Gurukul gains momentum, products made by students such as handicraft, Vedic kits, etc will be sold.
The entirety of the revenue earned from the above exercises will be put into the betterment and constant improvement and growth of Gurukul and its wider activities.
Gurukul Vidyalaya is a charitable organization for Vedic education which provides free of cost education, meals and boarding facilities for the Vidyarthis. A continuous source of income or a corpus is imperative to accomplish seamless running of any organization in auto mode and for it to grow to its full potential in a sustainable manner.
While large funds are welcome from all our patrons, we welcome contributions for the education, meals and lodging-boarding of a student with a commitment of INR 50,000 which can be paid at one go or over 2 or 3 installments. The cost comes to INR 4,200 per month or just INR 135 per day for a year.
